Lapeer County has a total area of 663 square miles, of which 643 square miles is land and 20 square miles is water. Lapeer County’s geography is very similar to Oakland County, except Lapeer County is more rural. Lapeer is one of the five counties that form the peninsula projecting into Lake Huron known as The Thumb, which in turn is a sub-region of Mid Michigan.

Lake Life

Lake Lapeer – Lake Lapeer is a beautiful 365-acre private lake located in Lapeer County, Michigan. Situated 50 miles north of Detroit, 20 miles east of Flint, and 60 miles west of Ontario, Lake Lapeer is a magnificent setting for 350 homeowners. Year-round activities abound on Lake Lapeer. Boating, water sports and fishing comprise summer highlights while the winter finds residents enjoying ice fishing, skating, cross country skiing, and snowmobiling.
Big Fish Lake – is a 105 acre, public lake located within Ortonville Recreation Area. There is a public boat launch, picnic area and trail system located within the park.
Lake Nepessing – Lake Nepessing is a 414 acre all-sports lake located in Elba Township of Lapeer County 3 miles southwest of the City of Lapeer. Lake Nepessing is the largest inland lake in Lapeer County and is popular for fishing and all other types of boat recreation.
Holloway Resevoir – Holloway Reservoir is an all-sports 1,973 acre impoundment on the Flint River. It is located in eastern Genesee and western Lapeer counties. Most of the reservoir is encompassed by the Holloway Reservoir Regional Park. Mott Reservoir, a smaller impoundment, is located about 5 miles downstream. Because of its size and proximity to Flint, Holloway Reservoir provides a major aquatic resource for this otherwise relatively lakeless area of south-central Michigan.
Barnes Lake – is an all-sports lake located in Deerfield Township near Miller Lake.
Seven Ponds – Seven Ponds is a private, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Nestled on nearly 350 acres of woodlands, wetlands, ponds, fields, and prairie. Adding the Jonathan Woods and Richie Pond Preserve properties brings our total acreage close to 500, allowing plenty of space for you to find a peaceful retreat.
